2024 M3S Spring Meeting!
NUANCE and M3S tackle Artificial Intelligence in the world of microscopy for their 2024 Spring Meeting.
The Midwest Microscopy and Microanalysis (M3S) Spring Meeting met this year on on Friday, March 15th, 2024 in Northwestern's McCormick Auditorium again this year. The collaboration between the NUANCE Center, SHyNE Resource, and the M3S Society with support from NU’s Material Research Science Engineering Center created a fantastic gathering of academics, industry professionals, and students. There were nearly 90 attendees for the research talks surrounding the topic of “Frontiers in AI-ML and Computaionally-Mediated Microscopy”. Invited speakers Prof. Qian Chen of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Tekin Bicer, PhD from Argonne National Laboratory presented their talks Electron Videography and Machine Learning of Soft Matter and Using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Methods to Enhance x-ray Microtomography at the Argonne Synchrotron Light Source respectively.
The line up of speakers included PhD candidates and academic professionals from the University of Illinois Chicago, Northwestern University, and Perdue University, as well as research scientists from Argonne National Laboratory. To complement their research on electron microscopy, new and returning vendors of instruments and related equipment gathered in the Northwestern room, overlooking the lakefill and across north campus. This year included representatives from AMT, Bruker, JEOL, ThermoFisher Scientific, Hitachi, Zeiss, Oxford Instruments, DENS, DEM, and Gatan Ametek. The event brought together professionals of all kinds in a sharing of tricks of the trade, advancements in technology, and connect over a shared love of microscopy.
Thank you so much to those who could make it and to the M3S planning committee for making this event possible. We hope to see you next year!
