The 2020 Microscopy & Microanalysis Scholar Awards
Every year the Microscopy Society of America awards scholarships to outstanding students researching in the field of Microscopy and Microanalysis. This year, NUANCE is proud to announce we have three of our resident scholars and one of our collaborators receive this award!
Congratulations to Chi Zhang, VPD Group Doctoral Student in Material Science & Engineering, for her paper titled “Identification of Structure and Chemical Occupancy of Emerging Complex Compounds via Analytical Electron Microscopy"; Stephanie Ribet, VPD Group Doctoral student in Material Science & Engineering, received this years Raleigh and Clara Miller Memorial Scholarship for her paper titled, "Multimodal Characterization of the Oleophilic Hydrophobic Magnetic (OHM) Sponge:A Nanocomposite Material for Oil Spill Remediation”; and Yue Li, VPD Group Doctoral Student in Applied Physics, is this year's recipient in the biological sciences discipline of the Robert P. Apkarian Memorial Scholarship for her paper titled “Nanoscale Chromatin Imaging and Analysis (nano-ChIA) platform bridges 4-D chromatin organization with molecular function."
Faculty Director Vinayak P. Dravid, shares "It is remarkable to have three from one institution, let alone the same group!" Coincidentally, Stephanie Ribet and Chi Zhang were also featured in our Women in Nano series!
The fourth recipient, Kaustav Chatterjee, Indiana University Department of Chemistry Graduate student, collaborated in a study with NUANCE/Northwestern, mentored by Roberto dos Reis, PhD, of a novel material that will provide new strategies for designing durable photocatalysts material. NUANCE facilities are being used to characterize this novel material at the atomic scale. Regarding this exciting research, Professor Dravid also mentions that this, "unusual combo of MRSEC IRG2 collaboration, mentored by our own Roberto, used state-of-the-art JOEL ARM200CF AC S/TEM at NUANCE."
Well done to all of you for being recognized for the innovative contributions your research is making in our ever-changing world! Thank you for your continued dedication to and for the outstanding breakthroughs in your fields of study!
