NUANCE Hosts X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Workshop
Last month, the NUANCE Center hosted an X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) Workshop in collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific, SHyNE Resource and NU-MRSEC. The workshop took place May 25th at Ruan Center at Northwestern University where 80 participates joined to hear multiple guest speakers highlight the various aspects, research, and use of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
The workshop began with breakfast and opening remarks from Director of the NUANCE, Prof. Vinayak Dravid, NUANCE’s KECK-II Facility Manager, Dr. Xinqi Chen, and Thermo Fisher’s Bill Sgammoto. This was followed by a talk on “Energy Conversion, Storage and Transfer in 2D Material Based Systems” from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Prof. Amin Salehi-Khojin. Next, Prof. Salehi-Khojin, Prof. Thomas P. Beebe, Jr from the University of Delaware’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry spoke to participants on “Surface Analysis in the World of Fine Art.”
After a break for lunch, participants then listened in on a talk from Thermo Fisher’s Dr. Paul Mack on “Enhancing Surface and Thin Film Analysis through In-Situ Complementary XPS, UPS and ISS.” This was followed by Dr. Yuan Li of Harvard University, who spoke on “Building Molecular Diodes from Redox Active Proteins Absorbed on Self-Assembled Monolayers.”
The rest of the afternoon was filled by an optional instrument demonstration with Dr. Paul Mack, complimentary of Thermo Fisher, and a closing reception.
