NUANCE's NUFAB Facility Hosts Summer Tours for Young Aspiring Scientists
This summer, NUANCE's NUFAB Facility welcomed two groups of young learners eager to explore the world of nanotechnology and materials science. On July 17 and August 7, students from Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development visited the facility as part of their summer courses, Introduction to Nanotechnology (grades 6–8) and Materials Science (grades 9–12).
The July 17 tour was led by Nasir Basit, NUFAB Director, who guided middle school students through the lab, showcasing advanced fabrication tools and age-appropriate demonstrations. The August 7 visit was led by Nathan Dvorak, a postdoctoral researcher, who introduced high school students to the facility’s capabilities and shared insights from his own research experience.
Taught by Ph.D. student Novin Rasouli from the University of Illinois Chicago, the courses aimed to bridge classroom concepts with real-world applications. The tours allowed students to see nanofabrication equipment in action and understand how nanotechnology impacts research and industry.
These visits offered a unique opportunity for middle and high school students to experience a working nanofabrication environment and sparking curiosity and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.
